Bitstream Vera Sans est une sans-serif humaniste large et ouverte de Bitstream, publiée en 2003 avec le bureau GNOME. Les lettres ont des proportions généreuses, un grand œil, des ouvertures franches et des formes réglées pour la rastérisation à l’écran ; le I majuscule et le l minuscule se distinguent bien. Elle a servi de base à la famille DejaVu.

C’est un cheval de labeur simple et neutre pour les menus, les boîtes de dialogue et le texte d’interface, un peu spacieux et amical. Bonne pour les interfaces, la documentation, les commentaires de code et le texte web en petit et moyen corps. L’aperçu ne montre que le latin ; pour le cyrillique, il faut une police de secours ou la descendante DejaVu.
